Looting Spiro Mounds
An American King Tut's Tomb
by David La Vere
This is truly a great book. It's well organized, well written, and
thoroughly  researched. Enough background on the Indians who
built the mounds at Spiro, Oklahoma is included to give readers
with minimal knowledge of archeology understanding of the
artifacts and their significance. David La Vere explores the
complicated relationships between the archaeologists, pot
hunters, land owners, relic dealers, collectors, legislators, and
academics whose lives were impacted by the digging and
ultimate destruction of the mounds. The author does an admirable
job of telling all sides of the story, in spite of his bias towards
academic archeology.
